After their most recent on-field reunion, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were beaming, and “old friends” posted encouraging messages on social media.

Despite recently joining Al Nassr, Ronaldo was part of the home team, scoring his first goal since arriving there. For PSG, 2022 World Cup winner Messi scored in an action-packed 5-4 thriller played out in Riyadh, with the French champions eventually coming out on top.
The caption of Ronaldo’s Instagram post, which featured a pic of him with Messi prior to kickoff, read:
“So happy to be back on the pitch, and on the score sheet! “It’s always nice to see old friends!”. Messi, meanwhile, shared a short video of himself embracing Ronaldo in the tunnel prior to kick-off. Being noe no animosity between the pair despite their many years spent turning out for Barcelona and Real Madrid on opposing sides of a fierce Clasico divide.

There is a mythology surrounding Messi and Ronaldo’s rivalry. There is mutual respect between them, despite not commenting on each other much. Even though Ronaldo commented that they “may have dinner together someday” during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in 2019. The two do not appear to be particularly close.
Before kickoff, it was nice to see two of football’s greatest players smiling and hugging each other. Of course, Messi had more reason to be pleased in the opening stages as he completed a beautiful PSG play inside three minutes, giving his team a 1-0 lead.
Additionally, CR7 was good friends with Kylian Mbappe, the teenage PSG forward who looked up to him. The former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos. Ramos was caught on camera laughing with CR7 in the tunnel. Even the biggest stars may set aside their differences and develop solid friendships. As CR7 has maintained relationships with his former teammates despite their intense competition.
